Academic Partner Data Access Step-by-Step
Step 0 — Develop a Feasible Research Proposal Request access to Flatiron Explore for your whole research team. The quickest way to access Flatiron's national datasets is to submit a feasible proposal on the first submission.
TIP: Have pre-feasibility questions? Contact AskResearch@flatiron.com.
Steps 1–3 — Submit, Review, and Approve Proposal
- Submit Proposal: Download and submit data dictionaries and the proposal template to request EDM, PANO, or CGDB data through Explore.
- Review and Re-Submit: Flatiron's review team, comprised of research scientists and research oncologists, will review your proposal for feasibility and provide feedback to help you develop a feasible project.
- Approval: Feasible proposals will be reviewed and approved by your institution's partnership steering committee.
TIP: Submit proposals by the 1st of each month for quickest feasibility review.
Step 4 — Contract and IRB Flatiron will upload a Statement of Work for your approved project to Explore and provide instructions on how to execute the agreement. IRB documentation is also required and must be uploaded to Explore before data delivery.
Steps 5–6 — Delivery and Analysis Flatiron will deliver data via Explore. Your contract gives you data use rights for two years from the data delivery date. Data use is limited to the analysis described in your approved proposal.
TIP: Resources to get started with analysis quickly, including R packages, are available on the Flatiron Knowledge Center.
Step 7 — Publication Submit final drafts of publications (manuscripts, conference posters, and abstracts) for Flatiron review via Explore 10 business days before the submission deadline.
